About Next Leaf

Our goal at Next Leaf is to help our clients project a clean, focused, and impressive voice to their audience. Our work takes many forms, from editing text to ensure it is clear and consistent, error-free, and embodies the client’s tone, to applying a client’s brand, personality, and ideas visually across their publications.

As a small consulting business, we maintain flexible, collaborative partnerships with our clients. We work individually with each client to understand their work, personality, and needs. We then apply that knowledge to the project at hand and hone the final product until it meets — or if at all possible exceeds — the client’s expectations.

About Owner Abigail Wiebe

Abigail Wiebe (owner, editor, publications designer, Jane of all trades) is a Charlottesville native who graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in English and a minor in biology. Blending the worlds of technical science and written composition, Abigail went on to work in the publications department of an environmental consulting company in Portland, Oregon. As a word processing specialist, she was responsible for assembling, proofreading, and formatting all reports, plans, and proposals for delivery. She also designed project-specific template suites and helped revamp the corporate templates. The complex work and strict deadlines demanded that she quickly develop a broad skill set and in-depth knowledge of the main software applications. She also had to be able to work extremely quickly with careful and thorough attention to detail, all while juggling a wide variety of assignments, personalities, and needs. By the time she left, Abigail was the sole document preparation specialist for the company and in charge of all out-going documents.

Upon leaving her position in Oregon, she realized she had a highly specialized skill set to offer, but the publications options in the market were extremely limited — both for her and for the businesses she wanted to help. However, she recognized that a lot of businesses needed her services even if they couldn’t hire her as an internal employee. So she started consulting to make her skills as available and advantageous to other businesses as possible. Since returning to Charlottesville in 2010, she has expanded her work into more editing roles and now focuses primarily on editing and publication design. Her favorite parts of her work are helping her clients and always getting to learn new things and broaden her skills.
